Supervisor of Communications

I'm extremely passionate about our nation's trail systems and, in particular, how PATC can help shape the future of trails in our region. The progress PATC has made since the last election has been inspiring (digital newsletter, new store model, improvements in social media, updating lands process, new trails, etc) and I want to continue that momentum of strengthening the Club, modernizing outdated processes, and developing the strategic goals that will guide PATC into its next century.

As one of the younger members of the Board, I've used my time on EXCOM to learn from the experience of other members while also encouraging us to look beyond the “current fire” and toward more strategic, long-term planning. I believe PATC is at an important inflection point, and we have an opportunity to build on the progress of the past two years rather than simply respond to the next problem in front of us.

In my mind, one of the Club's greatest challenges is that our organizational structure and communications methods have not kept pace with the world around us. This creates unnecessary inefficiencies, particularly in our volunteer processes. Volunteerism is at the core of what PATC does and our ability to maintain trails, steward lands, operate cabins, and expand outdoor access ultimately depends on our ability to attract, welcome, train, and retain volunteers - particularly young volunteers. There are still too many bottlenecks between someone wanting to help and actually becoming an engaged PATC volunteer. We're making progress in removing many of those barriers. Along the way, we've made some mistakes and had some successes - and both have taught us a great deal. I'm more confident than ever that, with continued focus and a willingness to modernize, we can make significant progress over the next two years and build a stronger, more accessible, and more effective Club for the next generation.
