99 Reasons to Show Up for PATC

You have the power to keep our wild spaces accessible for the next 100 years. Together, we can make sure the trail is ready for the next person who shows up.

Our goal this year is to raise $150,000 by December 31st. Every gift, at every level, moves us toward it. Please consider making your gift today.

A rainy morning in November 1927 brought together a small group of hikers for the first time. On a serendipitous outing together once the sun emerged that afternoon, they discovered a shared passion to build the Appalachian Trail in the Mid-Atlantic region. Knowing that a new national park would be created in the Skyland Resort area, they started there. These enthusiastic hikers gathered their friends, found their tools, and got to work: surveying, digging, chopping, scraping, and clearing a path through the wilderness. Thus, the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club was born. Since then, tens of thousands of people have found their own reasons to show up for PATC.

New Paragraph

Your gift is how you show up today. It funds the same quiet determination that has carried PATC for nearly a century: tools kept in good repair, volunteers trained and equipped, land protected, and the everyday coordination that turns thousands of individual hours into 99 years of ensuring the outdoors remain accessible, sustainable, and deeply enriching for all.

Whatever first brought you to PATC — a favorite view, a friend made on a workday, a night in a cabin during a storm — your donation makes all 99 reasons a reality by providing the critical resources required to safely and effectively coordinate this many miles of trail, acres of land, cabins, shelters, tools, and volunteers.
