Trekking Inca Sites of Peru

Event Category: Class

Start Date: Tuesday, 2/11/2020

Start Time: 7:00 PM

Contact: Larry Broadwell

Description: The Cusco region of Peru is rich with trails and monumental sites constructed by the Incas during their enormous, short-lived empire. Larry Broadwell will show slides of his group's series of dayhikes to explore the iconic "lost city" of Machu Picchu, other cities, an agricultural research station, a salt production facility, and storage depots that enabled Inca armies to move quickly over great distances. Learn what it's like for a "lowlander" to climb through passes over 10,000 feet in the Andes, what might happen when you drink the local water, and what else may go right or wrong on such a trip. This 1-hour session at the Tysons REI store is free, but space is limited and advance registration is required at www.rei.com/stores/tysons.
