Sugar Knob Cabin
This tiny, stone cabin is located in the George Washington National Forest, about 8 miles from Woodstock, VA. Offering 2 double-deck, fold-down bunks and a small wood stove, this cabin is ideal for more adventurous couples. Built for use by GWNF Rangers circa 1920, the cabin is appropriate for experienced backpackers seeking remote lodging and a difficult hike-in. Access the cabin by a 3.2 mile uphill hike-in on Little Stony Creek Trail. When the trailhead is closed from February through April, park at the Wolf Gap Recreation Area Campground and attempt the 6.7 mile hike-in. This alternate route is not for the faint-hearted or novice hiker.
ACCESS ALERT:
From mid-January through April, the Forest Service closes Forest Road 92 and the longer hike-in is required. Call the Forest Service at 540-984-4101 for the
latest road closure updates. You should never start the hike-in in the
late afternoon or evening, especially in winter.
