How Far Will Your Gift Go?
You have the power to decide how far your gift will go. For every $100, you symbolically protect a mile of trail—when you help PATC raise $110,000 by December 31st, you keep every mile of our 1,100 miles safe, welcoming, and well cared for.
When you step onto a trail, you know the feeling: the reassuring crunch of leaves underfoot, the breath of crisp air that clears your mind, a new path winding into possibility. These aren’t just miles of dirt and stone—they’re miles of tradition, connection, discovery, and peace. For nearly a century, PATC has built and cared for these trails stretching from Pennsylvania to Central Virginia so that people and families have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.
But trails don’t keep themselves. Every footfall depends on invisible work: volunteers clearing weeds and brush, repairing erosion, and building steps that keep open a vast network of highly trafficked trails throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
“Each time we go out for crew work on the trail, we choose to be with each other to do things that benefit so many. It is hard work, yet so rewarding.”
—Dan and Ellen Feer, Cadillac Crew, recent PATC Honorary Life Member Award Winners
That is the current that runs through every volunteer story: people finding joy, pride, and belonging through physically demanding, hands-on care for the trail. They dig, haul, sweat, and problem-solve — and they do it for beauty, accessibility to nature, and to give back for the future hikers they’ll never meet. That transformation is only possible thanks to donors like you.

Here’s the reality:
- Our land managers and agency partners are stretched thin.
- Longtime trail maintainers are passing the torch.
- Trail maintenance has no revenue stream. It exists only because people choose to give.
That’s why this year’s year-end campaign is asking: How far will your gift go?
PATC invests approximately $100 to maintain one mile of trail. Our goal is to raise $110,000 by December 31st—enough to symbolically cover all 1,100 miles of PATC trails for a year.
Your gift answers a critical need. Every contribution supports PATC’s essential operating work: outfitting volunteers with tools and safety gear, providing certifications such as sawyer training, trail maintenance, hike leaders, and trail patrol. And because your gift fuels PATC’s full operating strength, it also sustains cabins, protects landscapes, and strengthens the network that connects people to the outdoors.
Here’s what your gift can do:
- $100 protects one mile of trail—putting tools and training in the hands of volunteer crews.
- $500 keeps five miles clear—accessible for families and first-time hikers.
- $1,000 sustains ten miles—ensuring clear steps for thousands of people across our region.
No matter the amount, every dollar you give helps keep the road less traveled open, welcoming, secure, and well cared for.
Please make your gift today and help us raise $110,000 by December 31st. Together, we can ensure the trails that mean so much to all of us remain open and accessible for generations to come.
