Education + Outreach
At the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, our Education & Outreach programs are designed to bring people together, deepen connections to the outdoors, and make the trail experience accessible to all.
We offer a wide range of guided hikes, community events, classes, and hands-on workshops for all experience levels—from those just discovering the outdoors to seasoned hikers looking to expand their skills. Whether you’re learning the basics of backpacking, exploring local natural history, or joining a group hike to discover new trails, our programs are built to inspire confidence and curiosity.
Our goal is simple: build a welcoming, inclusive outdoor community. We strive to remove barriers to participation by offering approachable programming, knowledgeable volunteer leaders, and opportunities that meet people where they are—physically, financially, and experientially.
Through education and shared experiences, we empower individuals to enjoy, care for, and advocate for the trails, cabins, and natural spaces that define the PATC region.
Join us on the trail, in the classroom, or around the campfire—and be part of a community that’s passionate about the outdoors and committed to keeping it accessible for everyone.
If you are a member of PATC and are interested in volunteering, consider volunteering at an event or becoming a Hike Leader.
