Bears! There have been recent problems with bears reported in our area. Bear activity at the Pinefield Hut in the Shenandoah National Park has prompted a warning to avoid the hut. Trails in Douthat State Park are closed due to a bear attack. A PATC cabin has had an unwelcome bear visitor. Bears and the need to use care are nothing new. It might be a good time to review bear guidance.

Leave No Trace Training: The Trail Patrol has added another session of its very popular Leave No Trace course. A cabin-based version of this course for trainers will be held the weekend of September 30-October 1. More information and Registration

Long time Volunteers Pass On: The PATC community was saddened by the recent deaths of Jeanne Henkel, Dennis Staiger, and Charles Erik ‘Rik’ Miller. Read more about these outstanding people and the contributions they made to our club and the community.
