Wilderness First Aid Classes

We now offer two different classes! Basic Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Aid.

Basic Wilderness First Aid

 

This is a 16 hour combination class. Day 1 is American Heart Association CPR/AED/First Aid. Students will receive a textbook and certification card good for two years. Day 2 is American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI) Basic Wilderness First Aid. Topics include: Getting Help, Wilderness Wound Care, Medical Emergencies, Environmental Emergencies and First Aid Kits. Students will also participate in Case Studies and Hands-On Skills. Students will receive a Basic Wilderness First Aid certification card good for two years. This class is good for people with little to no medical background or little to no outdoor experience. This also serves as a great refresher for people that do have experience. Students must be at least 14 years old to participate.

       

Class information: This class is held at the PATC Headquarters in Vienna, VA. It runs from 9am until 5 pm on both days. The cost per person is $130.

 

Wilderness First Aid (WFA)

      This is an intense 20 hours class focused only on Wilderness Emergencies. Students will learn about: getting help, patient transport, patient assessment, documentation, medical emergencies, environmental emergencies, and traumatic injuries. In addition, students will participate in case studies, skills sessions, and scenarios. Students will receive a waterproof field guide and an Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI) certification card good for two years. Student must be at least 14 to participate.  There are no pre-requisites for this class. This class is great for any outdoor enthusiast. Class will be held indoors and outdoors (no matter what the weather is). This class is approved by the Boy Scouts of America.
 
 

Class information: This class is held at the Emergency Response Training Center in Frederick, MD. It runs from 8:30 am until 6:30 pm both days. The cost per person is $180 ($205 if you wish to stay for the optional CPR component).
