Description: The hike will be about 4 miles on fairly well shaded natural surface trails. The hike is canceled only if it is actively raining or a storm is expected. Call the hike leader if you are unsure. Please refrain from joining us if you are not feeling well. Hiking boots or shoes preferable. Hiking poles if you’d like. Bring lunch and water. We’ll try to catch some shade for lunch upon our return to the parking lot. Camp or tailgate chairs/stools recommended.
DIRECTIONS: (Schaeffer Farms Trailhead, 14920 Schaeffer Rd., Germantown MD 10874) From I-270N - take exit 15B for 118 South. After about 2 miles on 118 South, turn right onto Clopper Rd., take the immediate left (yes, quickly, yet safely, move across the 3 lanes) to turn left onto Schaeffer Rd. The Schaeffer Farms Trailhead is about 2 miles down on the left. When you turn left onto the gravel road, you will likely see the large sign for “Warrior Canine Connection” first; then to the left of that you will see a sign with “Schaeffer Farms Trailhead” in smaller print underneath “Seneca Creek State Park.” There is a good sized paved parking lot with a new composting toilet restroom (single). You may want to arrive a little bit early, so all will have a chance to use it prior to stepping off onto the trail.
