Murphy-Chambers Farm Loop Trail has an option for a 3 mile hike or a 1 mile hike. We will be taking the shorter 1 mile version. This hike is geared for First Time Hikers or for those who enjoy a short easy hike at a slower pace all the while being able to see some great views of the Shenandoah River while hiking through the fields of American history. For those that wish a longer hike can park at the Visitor Center and hike the longer version and meet up with us at Murphy Chambers Farm House at 10am where our S-Miles hike will start at. (If you wish to do the longer hike, please let me know and I can send you directions of how to meet us)
This trail in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park will take you on a history journey through the foot steps of the past. In 1894, Washington, D.C. journalist Kate Field, who had a keen interest in preserving memorabilia of John Brown, spearheaded a campaign to return the fort to Harpers Ferry. Local resident Alexander Murphy made five acres available to Miss Field, and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad offered to ship the disassembled fort to Harpers Ferry free of charge. In 1895, John Brown's Fort was rebuilt on the Murphy Farm about three miles outside of town on a bluff overlooking the Shenandoah River.
We will start the hike at the Murphy-Chambers Farm parking area. The trail is grass covered for most of the hike then turns into a gravel covered road.
This hike is rated easy and is great for New Hikers and family with small kids.
Dogs are welcome on this hike, however they must be leashed and at the control of the owners at all times.
We will meet at the Chambers Murphy Farm house (123 Murphy Rd, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425) at 10am. Please wear sturdy shoes and warm clothing and bring a water bottle.
