(5th edition, 2009) This book is the second in a series of three books describing half-day hikes of 3 to 6 miles in length, all within a 40-mile radius of downtown Washington D.C. Montgomery and Frederick Counties are featured in this book, including hikes along the scenic C&O Canal in the Potomac River Valley. Hikes are organized by seven river valleys throughout the counties.
This 5th edition by Larry Broadwell reflects the significant changes Maryland parks and trails have seen since the previous edition in 2001. The new edition includes 24 hikes, three of which are new, updated maps and routing for each hike, and internet and phone information to learn more about the area. Historical sites encountered along several trails are detailed in this edition. This new guide is a must have for hiking in Montgomery and Frederick Counties of Maryland. The 5th edition is 144 pages in new soft cover format with 11 photos.
