Map 13. AT GWNF Pedlar District (Tye River to James River)

(6th edition, 2010) Features complete coverage of the southern half of the Pedlar District of George Washington National Forest. It shows 143 miles of trails including 47 miles of the Appalachian Trail from Tye River (VA-65) southward to the James River (US-501). While this area is outside PATC's trail maintenance region, Maps 12 & 13 support PATC's "Hiking Guide to the Pedlar District." (NOTE: The official AT maps of this region -marketed in the "AT Guide Sets" - are simply trail "corridor" maps which do not portray side trails or forest access routes from adjoining communities.) This map is GPS compatible due to portrayal of UTM grid lines on the NAD-83 datum. Notes on this Edition: The 2010 edition shows a more accurate location of the entire AT route; shows the recent 2-mile relocation of the AT due to the construction of the James River Foot Bridge; updates the AT Elevation Profile based on a ground survey of the entire 47.1-mile distance for AT Guide book sections 17 through 21; changes how Federal forest and park land parcels are symbolized (matching specifications also used on Map 12 to the north); shows the extent of the newly designated The Priest Wilderness Area; updates all side trail locations (and adds trail locations) in the area between Porters (Gap) Field south to Salt Log Gap; improves portrayal of the Panther Falls Trail; and, add a trail index to help locate named trails.
