Front Royal Celebrates the Trail

The Front Royal - Warren County AT Community Committee has created a “Hike A Mile Share A Smile!” campaign that will encourage people to get out on the AT.

Front Royal in Warren County, Virginia, is a member of the Appalachian Trail Community program which recognizes trail towns that protect and promote the Appalachian Trail.  The PATC has a cooperative relationship with the communities in its area.  PATC members Katherine Rindt and Tom Johnson are club representatives on the AT Community Committee.

The promotion is a fun way to get people out on the trail.  To participate, you take a selfie with a white AT blaze in it.  Participants will qualify for discounts at Front Royal merchants and be eligible for prizes including a stay at Skyland.

For more information, here is the community’s notice about the program:

Hike A Mile Share A Smile! Here’s how…

 In partnership with the Front Royal/Warren County Visitor Center, the Front Royal/Warren County Appalachian Trail Community™ Committee, we hope you’ll enjoy these discounts from locally owned businesses who support the Appalachian Trail (A.T.).  And if that smile was inspired by your first step on the world famous trail in our ownbackyard, we hope it will be the first of many!

The AT at Compton GapFront Royal/Warren County was officially designated an A.T. Community™ in 2012.  The A.T. Community™ program was designed to thank communities who have hosted and cared for the trail since its completion in 1937.  The program was designed to

  • Engage community citizens, Trail visitors, and stewards;
  • Recognize and thank communities for their service to the Trail and hikers;
  • Act as a catalyst for enhancing sustainable economic development;
  • Aid local municipalities and regional areas with conservation planning; and
  • Help local community members see the Trail as a resource and asset.
