Bear Problems Reported at Pinefield Hut
On September 22, 2017, the Shenandoah National Park warned hikers
to avoid the Pinefield Hut (in the south section of the Park) due to recent bear activity. Habituated bears have learned to associate tents and backpacks with food, so if you do stay there, be especially diligent about properly storing food and toiletries with scents, leaving no crumbs or wrappers in your tent or backpack, and do not leave your pack on the ground. Be sure to check updated information on the SNP website
if you are hiking in this area.
