Description: AT North from the Keys Gap to Harpers Ferry WV.
With the encouragement of Lisa and David I am posting this mid-week hike.
An Out and Back hike on the AT from Keys Gap (Rt 9) to John Brown's Fort in the Village of Harpers Ferry.
Total Distance: 12.6 miles - Total Elevation Gain: 2126'
Lunch will be at the picnic tables in the Historic Harpers Ferry Village.
Hikers can turn around at any time - or - shorten the round trip distance by 1.6 miles to 11 miles Total Distance by going as far as the Shenandoah River bridge, eating lunch by the river, and heading back to Keys Gap from there.
The first 4 miles or so of the trail is mostly gently rolling woods with some flat rocky sections. Then a fairly steep winding 1.5 mile (890+/-) ft drop down to the Shenandoah River bridge (Hwy 340) . After crossing the highway bridge we will go .8 mile along the sidewalk down Shenandoah St. (not the AT) to the historic Village, John Brown's Fort, and the Railway Bridge.
The most difficult part of the trail is the 1.5 mile (890 +/-) ft hike back up to the ridge line from the river.
Meet at the Keys Gap parking area at 8:30 am. Leaders will meet group at Keys Gap.

Carpools will leave at 7:30am from the parking lot at Fair Oaks Mall near the Cheesecake Factory and the Sterling W&OD Bike Trail Lot at 7:45am. The leader will not be at the carpool locations.
If you would like to carpool from these locations, just show up about ~15 minutes prior to the meeting time. Carpools should wait until the departure time before leaving.
Some people have established carpools already that meet at these locations and occasionally they have room for others. In the case where they do not have room for additional people, the other folks there can form their own carpools. In the case where there is no room for one individual, that person would need to drive themselves.
