February 2016 Volunteers of the Month
Vic and Christy Fickes
Somehow it wouldn't seem right if we didn't declare another couple to be February Volunteer(s) of the Month. And wouldn't it be uncanny if the couple were recently married members of the Cadillac Crew? (A.K.A. match.crew.com)
Vic Fickes joined PATC in 2001 and Christy Barber joined in 2006, and they were joined together on Aug. 15, 2015, becoming the 3rd pair of Cadillac Crew members to say "I Do."
Vic is an avid backpacker preferring the arid mountainous regions in the west, and has been a regular with Cadillac Crew, helping with the construction of Old Rag Cabin. He makes an annual trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to do portage maintenance, and assists Christy and her "pa-pa" Steve Barber in maintaining Johns Rest Cabin.
Christy also prefers hiking boots and ripstop nylon in the great outdoors to high heels and posh surroundings, and was overseer of the Goldmine Loop & Spur trails of the C&O Canal National Historical Park at Great Falls before trading that responsibility for overseeing Johns Rest.
Vic and Christy both spent many hours volunteering on the recently completed relocation of a portion of the Tuscarora Trail and are also active with the American Hiking Society. The couple has recently completed and relocated to their very own cabin on Backbone Mountain, not far from the highest peak in Maryland.
